Just so you know, I’m currently sitting in my living room in my house in NC…not Ohio…and I live about 2 hours away from Wilmington, where there is quite a bit of filming for both movies and TV going on.
(for anyone living in Ohio..I’m sure it’s a great place, I’ve just never had an opportunity to visit)
They actually shot a few scenes of the last Iron Man movie in Cary, NC just about 15 min away from where I live, though the majority was shot in the Wilmington area.
But…I digress. Unlike you, I’m going to follow Kristen and Chloe’s lead regarding their roles in Clouds of Sils Maria. I’m not going to pit these two young talents against each other, because there is no need. They became quite close while filming; close enough that when they were both in NYC at the same time back in March they hung out and took a pic together with a fan.
I can’t say I know much about Chloe, I will personally reserve judgement regarding her performance until I see the movie.
But I know that though many of Kristen’s fans, myself included would love for her to win awards because we’ve seen her in roles where she shined, Welcome to the Riley’s, The Yellow Handkerchief, The Cake Easters, just to name a few…but for Kristen acting is not about the awards, the fame, it’s about the process, it’s about telling stories.
If a part interests Kristen she will be a part of the project whether she’s the lead or a supporting character, because again it’s about telling the story.
You may not appreciate her as an actress, that’s fine, but she’s been working steadily since she was 9 years old and she keeps getting hired. She took a hiatus of one year. This was not because roles where not offered to her, they are constantly sending her scripts begging for her to be a part of their films, she just had not found anything that was compelling enough for her to go back to work.
The first role that caught her attention was Amy Cole in Camp X-Ray, then Valentine in Clouds of Sils Maria…interesting that in both of these movies Kristen was the productions first choice for those characters…then a small role in Anesthesia as Sophie. I repeat, for Kristen it’s not about the size of the role it’s about telling the story and there are many, many, many people in the industry people that know way more than you or me that think she’s fantastic and want her for their movies.
This year she’s already wrapped production on Still Alice as Lydia, and she’s now filming American Ultra as Phoebe, reteaming with Jesse Eisenberg…
Later this year she’ll star in, The Big Shoe, Equals and a rumored project…Seasons of Dust in which she will co-star with Robert Redford, Ewan McGregor, and James Franco…
Bad actors don’t get work. Period! Not all characters are right for all actors…but again bad actors don’t get work.
But not only is Kristen a phenomenal talent, but she’s also a huge box office draw. If the movies she’s done are distributed and marketed appropriately they will be seen because there are many, many, many Kristen fans that will be out in mass to see her in a new film on opening night!
And I for one will be right there with them!

So apparently it’s inappropriate to want “I’m on the Highway to Hell” to be my funeral song…
